Marbella sits more or less in the middle of the western Costa del Sol. A 140
km stretch of coastline running from Malaga in the East to Gibraltar in the
West.
There are nearly 50 golf courses on the coast all within a 30 minute drive
from Marbella and this is intended to give a brief overview of some of them.

Valderrama
Brief description
Considered to be the no.1 golf course in
Europe and home of the Ryder Cup in 1997, the first time it was played
in Europe outside of the British Isles. Not cheap to play but the
ultimate golfing experience.
Located near Valderrama and a similar
environment – natural parkland with pine trees and cork oaks and all
built around a huge lake. A small hotel and 27 holes makes this an ideal
place to come for a golf break.

Another magnificent course in the
Sotogrande area. This is a relatively new course, all the greens are
designed to USGA standard and designed by the famous Cabell B. Robinson.

A family run and extremely friendly golf
course just outside the still very Spanish town of Estepona and on the
edge of The New Golden Mile. The 3rd hole known as the ski
run is the longest hole in Spain at 568m.
Above the New Golden Mile and mid way
between Estepona and Marbella is this fabulous golf complex complete
with the 5 star hotel Villa Padierna. Host to the European Seniors match
play tournament.

and Country Club this course nestles in the hills of Benahavis. As part
of the famous Marbella Club and Puente Romano Hotels, guests and villa
owners have preferential tee times although visitors are welcome.
Host on several occasions to the PGA
European Tour qualifying School, this is the 2nd oldest club
on the Costa del Sol. 2 courses with several holes running along the
beach.

up the golf Valley above the world famous port of Puerto Banus this 27
hole complex is best known for its outstanding driving range and
training facilities. The Spanish Ryder cup player, Manuel Pinero runs

The most famous golfer Spain has produced,
Seve Ballesteros, designed this course as his first on the Costa del
Sol. Set in the Ronda hills above San Pedro it presents a good challenge

This is a very exclusive club situated in
the former estate of the Saudi magnate Adnan Kashogui. Most famous for
it’s exclusivity and stunning villas that are built around the course
including 2 huge €6 million villas built by the prestigious Spanish
builders Polaris World

Aloha
Brief description
The only private club in the Golf Valley
above Puerto Banus and an old favourite of residents and visitors to
Marbella. Host recently to the Andalucian open.
A lovely 19th century club house
and very friendly staff make this a pleasurable golf club. The course
winds its way up into the hills behind Elviria giving a feeling of
tranquillity.
Part of the Mijas golf valley and a fairly
new course which is very quickly establishing itself as a fine golf
course. Although, high in the hills it is fairly flat allowing a round
without buggies but with the great hill top views.
15km inland from Fuengirola this is a
stunning golf resort with spectacular views. A very tight and demanding
golf course set amongst stunning scenery.

One of the older courses on the Costa del
Sol. Just outside Benalmadena this course has hosted many top
tournaments including the Spanish open. The hotel houses one of the top
Casinos in Spain
Otherwise known as, Royal Malaga golf club
this is the oldest golf club on the Costa del Sol. Designed by scotsman,
Tom Simpson it is reputed that this course was built for the King of
Spain to play whenever he visited Malaga.
Inland from Torremolinos this parkland
course makes for a user friendly round of golf. A beautiful 200 year old
farmhouse converted into the clubhouse adds to the experience.
