Guide To The Spanish Language
An introduction to Spanish without the grammar - A new and fresh perspective with some interesting items on
language and the similarities between Spanish and English
In Spanish they include a question mark at the beginning of a question as well
as at the end. The question mark at the beginning is upside down. ¿ as opposed to ? It is a useful shortcut to use a statement as a question so for
example you could make a statement that “He is a doctor” and change that into a question in writing using question marks ¿He is a doctor? When
speaking we can also change a statement into a question by emphasizing the last part of the sentence so we say “he is a doctor” if we put emphasis on the “tor” of the word doctor it is understood to be a question. It is the same in
English. There are of course certain words in both English and Spanish that indicate a question. These are very useful words:
• qué: what
• por qué: why
• cuándo: when
• dónde: where
• cómo: how
• cuál: which
• quién: who
• cuánto, cuánta: how much
• cuántos, cuántas: how many
