El Chorro is often referred to as Spains Lake District due to its 3 stunningly beautiful turquoise lakes. These lakes were created by damming the Guadalhorce River and now provide a peaceful location for fishing, swimming, picnicking or bird watching eagles are often seen circling the area.
The dam was officially opened in 1921 by the then king of Spain, Alfonso Xiii who walked along a specially constructed bridge 100m above the river. This is known as the Camino del Rey (Kings walk) and although currently closed for repairs can still be seen.
The town itself has some very nice tapas bars and restaurants.
