Jimera del Libar is a small village located approximately 23 kilometres to the
west of Ronda. It lies in the Sierra Grazalema Natural Park and sits directly
opposite the Libar mountain range. The town is split into two and the area known
as the “train station neighbourhood” is 2 kilometres from the centre of the
village. There are many attractions in and around this charming rustic village
to see and do.
Main Tourist Attractions
The village has several beautiful buildings to admire, including the town hall
and the Our Lady of the Rosary Church. On the other side of the village is the
hermitage building of the patron saint, Virgen de la Salud. Surrounding Jimera
del Libar are several interesting attractions including the Finca El Tosoro,
which is believed to be a Phoenician necropolis, and the La Flor Mill, which is
an old mill situated on a Roman bridge. A visit to Ronda will offer breathtaking
views and the opportunity to walk through any of the three natural parks that
surround the town. There s also an ornate bullring, several museums and the
bridge crossing the gorge to explore.
Shopping Opportunities
Jimera del Libar has some small shops which cater for the everyday needs of the
residents and some souvenirs for the visitor. One of the local handicrafts is
woven baskets and carved wooden spoons and bowls are also very popular. Ronda
has some very interesting shops and bazaars for the shopaholic to enjoy. You
will find many items including pottery, postcards, ceramics, clothing, leather
goods and jewellery on offer. The journey to Marbella, which is just over an
hour’s drive away, gives shoppers the opportunity to walk in the famous
boutiques of the Golden Mile. There is also the La Canada shopping centre and
many great clothes shops in the Old Town sector.
Eating out and Nightlife
There are several restaurants and cafés in the village and they serve up some
delicious traditional food. Some local specialities include hearty stews and
soups, as well as tasty pastries. The local residents even brew their own
beverages, namely zarzaprilla and mistela.
There are no lively clubs or discos to be found in Jimera del Libar; evenings
are usually spent enjoying the wonderful views and some warm company from the
locals. Ronda has a livelier nightlife and there are many bars and discos, as
well as live music and cabaret shows.
