Monda is a tiny town with a population of less than 2,000. Follow the C-337 road behind La Canada and it will suddenly appear in a mountain valley at 400mts, unmistakeable for its dominant feature, the magnificently quirky castle, (now a hotel), built on a mound above the village. Inside the hotel is sumptuously Moorish in style and offers luxury accommodation and dining.
Monda used to be a popular hippy destination for those whose determination or money ran out before reaching exotic Marrakech. Now Monda has reclaimed its traditional village atmosphere, however, the recently built road linking it to
Marbella, has increased its popularity with foreigners seeking the rural idyll within 10 minutes drive of the coast, making it more accessible and gentrified, with many new developments springing up around the village.
