Pizarra

Pizarra is a small, authentic Spanish village located about half an hour inland from Malaga. The village was left unsettled until the Christian era. This is due to the fact that a large rock threatened to crash down on the village. It was blown up by the authorities in 1988 when it began to show signs of cracking. Pizarra is a typical Spanish pueblo and remains largely unaffected by tourism but it does have an astonishing amount of nightlife activities for such a small village.

Major Tourist Attractions

Pizarra has its own Municipal Museum which is used to showcase the Roman and Moorish artefacts that have been found. An American painter called Gino Hollander used to reside in the town and left the collection to the villagers when he returned to America. Hikers, walkers and mountain bikers will love the hilly and challenging terrain that surrounds the village. Nearby Carratraca is home to an ancient Roman spa, which supposedly has healing properties. A short journey to Malaga means visitors can enjoy a trip to the Picasso Museum, a Roman amphitheatre, several ornate churches and a bullfighting ring. Once past Malaga, visitors can experience Tivoli world in Arroyo de la Miel. This is a theme park that the children will enjoy as it offers over 30 attractions and rides.

Shopping Opportunities

Pizarra offers limited shopping opportunities for the serious shopper. It does have an array of interesting shops where you can purchase goods such as clothing, shoes, jewellery, local crafts and souvenirs. Malaga is a haven for shoppers and you will find an El Cortes Ingles department store and the upmarket shopping precinct known as Marques de Larios. There are many fashionable boutiques and expensive clothing outlets to be found here. You can also purchase watches, perfume, fine art and jewellery.

Eating Out and Nightlife

The village of Pizarra appears to be a typical Spanish village but it offers rather more in the way of cafés and restaurants than other small villages. You will find typical Spanish fare available alongside an array of international dishes from countries such as Britain, France and Italy. There are many bars which have Tapas and local beers to try.

Nightlife is non-stop in this village and it has several nightclubs and discos for the visitor to enjoy. Many locals mix with tourists in these night spots and dancing can continue into the early hours of the next day.
